Look, I’ll be the first to admit it: big, traditional weddings are some of the greatest events on earth.
As a wedding photographer, I get a front-row seat to the magic. There is an undeniable, electric energy in a room packed with 150 of your favorite people. Watching your grandma tear up the dance floor, capturing that massive group photo where everyone is laughing, and experiencing the pure spectacle of a grand reception—it’s unmatched. If you want to throw the ultimate party of your life, a traditional wedding is hands-down the best way to do it.
But lately, I’ve been capturing a different kind of magic.

Elopements have evolved far beyond the old cliché of running off to a courthouse in secret. Today, eloping is a conscious, deeply intentional choice. As you look through the images below from a recent shoot I did right here in the historic French Quarter, you’ll see exactly what I mean.

When you have a 200-person guest list, you are limited to traditional venues that can hold that capacity. But when it’s just the two of you? The entire world—or in this case, the most romantic neighborhood in New Orleans—becomes your venue.
Instead of being confined to a single reception hall, an elopement allows us to treat the city like our personal canvas.
Imagine your wedding day looking like this:
Exchanging vows tucked away in the moody, historic shade of Pirate’s Alley.
Strolling hand-in-hand past the iconic wrought-iron balconies and hanging ferns of Royal Street.

Capturing epic, cinematic portraits with the grand architecture of Jackson Square as your backdrop.

From a photography perspective, this is pure gold. We aren't rushed by venue coordinators or restricted by strict timelines. We can chase the perfect golden hour light as it hits the historic brick, wait for a street jazz band to play a song just for you, and capture photos that feel entirely alive.

Traditional weddings are wonderful, but they come with a lot of moving parts. Timelines, seating charts, catering logistics, and making sure you greet every single aunt and second cousin can take a mental toll.
An elopement strips away the performance and brings the focus entirely back to the two of you.
No Stage Fright: If reading deeply personal vows in front of a crowd feels terrifying, an elopement gives you the privacy to cry, laugh, and speak from the heart without an audience.
Your Day, Your Pace: Want to pause your wedding day to grab a celebratory Sazerac at a historic bar? Want to laugh your way through getting powdered sugar all over your wedding attire while eating mid-day beignets at Café du Monde? You can. There is no crowd waiting for you to cut a cake.

Let’s be real: traditional weddings are a massive financial investment. When you elope, your budget shifts from paying for things (like chair rentals, linens, and feeding a crowd) to investing in unforgettable experiences.
Couples who elope in places like the French Quarter find they can easily afford the luxuries that truly matter to them:
That designer dress or custom suit that turns heads on every cobblestone street.
A world-class, multi-course dinner at a legendary spot like Brennan's or Antoine's after the ceremony.

Whether you choose a grand ballroom packed with everyone you’ve ever met, or a quiet, romantic street corner in New Orleans with just the two of you, the "best" wedding is simply the one that feels most like you.
Big weddings are an absolute blast, and I will always love shooting them. But if you want a day focused entirely on intimacy, style, culture, and zero stress, do not hesitate to break the mold. Elope. It might just be the greatest adventure you ever take.
